“Sen. Chuck Grassley is crafting an alternative Republican gun control bill...”

I had to read it twice when I saw this story on Politico last night.

I shouldn’t be surprised, Iowa Gun Owners has been warning about this for some time.

Gun owners’ biggest fear, ever since President Obama and his team began their crusade against gun owners 4 months ago, has been a “back room deal” between Republicans and Senator Diane Feinstein, once she realized that she couldn’t pass her bill on her own.

Clearly our worst fears are being realized as we speak.

Just two weeks ago, Senator Grassley was the ONLY Republican to side with the Democrats in the Judiciary Committee meeting where they voted to move S. 54 to the Senate.

This bill would:

>>> Make you a felon, and lock you away in federal prison for 15 years if you UNKNOWINGLY give a firearm as a gift to a prohibited person - again, even if you don't know the person is prohibited;

>>> Subject you to draconian forfeiture, racketeering, and money laundering penalties - virtually assuring that you'll spend the rest of your life in poverty - even if you win your case;

>>> Impose the same 15-year federal prison sentence if you UNKNOWINGLY sell more than one firearm to someone that you should have known was prohibited.

Even if you had no idea that the person you were selling a gun to was prohibited, under this proposed law you “should have known,” and will face 15 years in federal prison for a violation of this statute!

It’s this bill that vitriolic anti-gunners like Senators’ Feinstein (D-CA), Schumer (D-NY), and others plan to use to try to add amendments like the so-called “assault weapons” ban, “high cap” magazine ban, and a drastic expansion of the mental health laws as soon as two weeks from now.

As bad as this is, we now learn that Senator Grassley is actively drafting a comprehensive gun-control package according to multiple news outlets!

Our political insiders are telling us that Grassley is hoping to draft a proposal that would drastically expand the scope of the mental health laws – leaving thousands of Iowans vulnerable to losing their gun rights on the whim on any “mental health professional.”

And that’s just the start.

This would hit Iowa’s veterans the hardest – already tens of thousands of vets are losing their gun rights upon their return from war – through no fault of their own in many cases.

At this dicey stage of the game in Washington, with floor debate coming on the gun-grabbers dream bill in a few short weeks, Senator Grassley should be refusing to support all gun-control in any format – not drafting it!

Because not only is this bill bad policy, its bad politics.

You see, anti-gunners have been trying for months to get Grassley to support their agenda because he’s the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary committee – meaning that if the anti-gunners could get his support - many other junior senators would find it much harder to oppose them.

What’s more, moving ANY gun bill onto the Floor right now just gives a vehicle for the anti-gunners to amend, alter, and re-write since the Democratic Party controls the Senate!

While not all Democrats are anti-gun, the ones in charge certainly are – meaning they can do whatever they want and claim bi-partisan support at the same time since the bill is being authored by Republican Chuck Grassley!

This situation is so desperate that fellow Republican Senators’ Rand Paul (R-KY), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) are all vowing to use the filibuster to keep these proposals from even coming to the Floor for a vote.

They know that what we are saying is correct: moving any gun bill to the Floor would be a disaster for gun rights.

That’s why it’s vital that you contact Senator Grassley IMMEDIATELY.

The three fastest ways to reach him are:

1. By calling his office at 202-224-3744.

2. By leaving a message on his Facebook page here.

3. Go to his town-hall meetings going on all over Eastern Iowa next week. Please take an hour and go to one of these meetings and DEMAND that Senator Grassley stop drafting a “reasonable” gun control bill.

Your message to Grassley can be very simple: stop drafting and voting for gun control, in any format!

Make no mistake, we are facing the most serious threat to our gun rights in a generation!

The President is throwing everything he has at this. Vice President Biden is traveling the county whipping up support. Virtually every national media outlet is shamelessly promoting this agenda – and the voting will likely start in two short weeks.

It’s vital that you contact Senator Grassley IMMEDIATELY.

Finally, please take a moment to support the work of Iowa Gun Owners.

NO ONE else in Iowa fights harder for your 2nd Amendment rights at the state level.

Oftentimes politicians will say that we are too “unyielding” or that we are too aggressive in our defense of the 2nd Amendment. These are usually the same politicians who are scared of having their anti-gun records exposed by IGO or who are mad because our PAC helped kick some of their friends out of office in previous election cycles.

At the same time, other organizations that play at politics here in Iowa like to smear us as “not being team players.” Of course they are usually more concerned about protecting a political party than they are fighting for the 2nd Amendment.

You’ll notice that all these clubs are strangely quiet right now, when they are needed most. They will do nothing to endanger their relationship with powerful Republican politicians like Senator Grassley – shucks, he might not come and speak at their next event (sarcasm intended.)

This is what no compromise means – sounding the alarm in defense of the 2nd Amendment regardless of who is threatening our rights.

Iowa Gun Owners will never back down, we will never retreat, and we will never cut a deal to give political cover to a politician in exchange for a “seat at the table!”

If you appreciate this level of commitment, then please consider a contribution to support our work. Whether it’s $100, $50, or even just $20 – we will be putting it to use right here in Iowa in defense of your gun rights.

But whatever you do, please contact Senator Grassley today and demand that he stop drafting gun-control legislation.

P.S. Our worst fears are being realized. The gun-grabbers are running into heavy resistance to their agenda and have now turned to an old political trick: the backroom deal.

And who are they turning to as they craft this deal? Iowa’s Senator Chuck Grassley.

Politico reports that right now Grassley is “crafting an alternative Republican gun control bill...”

Insiders report that this bill will likely be opening the door wide open on declaring entire classes of people as mentally unfit – without the benefits of a trial – hitting Iowa’s vets the hardest.

But as bad as this is from a policy standpoint, it’s worse politically as ANY bill that comes to the Floor for a vote next month can be gutted, amended, altered and twisted by Diane Feinstein and her gun-grabbing friends into whatever they want – all the while claiming bipartisan support!

Please contact Senator Grassley at 202-224-3744 IMMEDIATELY and demand that he stop crafting gun control legislation and instead OPPOSE ALL GUN CONTROL IN ANY FORMAT!

And won’t you please consider a special contribution to Iowa Gun Owners? No other organization in Iowa fights as hard as we do in combating gun control. You’ll notice that the same groups that say IGO “pushes too hard” against the gun-grabbers are strangely silent right now.

That’s because they are more concerned about maintaining their political friendships than they are with sounding the alarm – even if that means a Republican Senator like Chuck Grassley.

So whether it be $100, $50, or even just $20 – please do what you can right away so we can continue to mobilize Iowans to combat gun control at the State and now Federal level
