With the 2019 legislative session starting on Monday, Iowa Gun Owners is pleased to announce that in addition to Senator Brad Zaun being our lead sponsor in the Senate, we have secured a strong bill sponsor in the House, too.
Representative-Elect Jeff Shipley (R-Jefferson Co) has been a long-time proponent of the Second Amendment and, having recently won his election to the Iowa House, happily agreed to sponsor this critical legislation!
For too long, lawmakers in the Iowa House were allowed to say that they were pro-gun, without ever having to cosponsor or vote on the most popular gun bill in the country!
That’s all going to change in 2019.
As a reminder, Constitutional Carry is a very simple idea.
If you’re legally able to possess a firearm, you could legally carry that firearm for self-defense without having to beg permission from the government — or add your name to a government database.
It’s just the Second Amendment the way our forefathers intended it to be.
This is a concept that is spreading across the country like wild-fire!
In fact, Constitutional Carry is already on the books in over a dozen states including: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming, as well as the rural portions of Montana!
I don’t know about you, but I think it’s high time that Iowans are able to enjoy the same freedoms that gun owners in over 25% of America currently enjoy!
But that doesn’t mean passing this bill is going to be easy.
The media is already opposing this bill, as they have every single time Iowans have expanded the Second Amendment over the last ten years!
Matt Windshitl, Speaker Pro-Tem, the lawmaker who is publicly pushing for ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation, is trying to downplay this bill — claiming that Iowans don’t need it.
And Bloomberg-backed radicals are going to fight us tooth and nail.

Expect to hear all sorts of lies and distortions about what this bill will do as the fight heats up in Des Moines!
No, despite what the news will say, it’s not the end of all gun laws.
No, this doesn’t mean that felons can own and carry firearms as anti-gun lawmakers will try to claim.
And no, this does not eliminate the shall issue concealed carry laws that we have on the book, meaning you can still have a permit for reciprocity purposes.
It simply acknowledges the fact that the Second Amendment is all the ‘permission’ that law abiding people need from the government to carry a firearm for self-defense.
Period.
Senator Zaun and Representative-Elect Shipley have promised to do their part by sponsoring this bill and pushing for it inside the legislature.
It’s up to gun owners like you and me to do our part, by mobilizing as many grassroots gun owners as possible into taking action in support of the bill.

Once the legislature is officially gaveled in for the year, Iowa Gun Owners is going to be ramping up our co-sponsor program where you’ll be able to send 1-click pre-written emails to your State Senator and Representative urging them to cosponsor the bill.
With the Iowa House shedding half a dozen seats in the elections last year, it’s clear that we have no guarantee that we’ll have these legislative majorities indefinitely.
It’s time that the legislature step up to the plate and do what their counterparts in 14 other states have done, by passing Constitutional Carry!
But they won’t do it on their own; we’ll have to make them do it!
