Constitutional Carry Law Passes!

Congratulations are in order to Second Amendment supporters in Missouri . . .

On January 1, 2017, their state will become the 11th “Constitutional Carry” state in the country.

No longer will they be forced to pay a tax to the government or ask their permission or have their name added to a government database (like we have to in Iowa) to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Last week, because of their relentless grassroots activism, their pressure forced the members of the state legislature to override the Governor’s veto of “Constitutional Carry” earlier in the year.

More than that, they also passed Stand-Your-Ground law at the same time!

On a personal note, I was proud to be involved in assisting the board of the Missouri Firearms Coalition — the driving force behind getting Constitutional Carry and Stand-Your-Ground passed into law.

It was a long process as the legislation had to get drafted, cosponsored, through 3 committees, passed through the House and Senate, vetoed by the Governor, and then, just last week, have the veto overridden by the legislature.

All of us here in Iowa should be jealous of the freedoms Missourians have just taken back from their government.

No more permits needed, no more adding your name to a government database just because you want to carry a defensive firearm, no more having to retreat from a violent criminal who’s attacking your family — Missourians have it all!

When the governor of Missouri vetoed the bill, their legislators fought back, hard!

As you may remember, when Stand-Your-Ground and Constitutional Carry legislation was introduced in the House and Senate here in Iowa, leadership in BOTH chambers blocked the bill.

As you know, I’m rare to heap praise on any politician.

But I can tell you from first-hand experience, legislators in Missouri wanted to fight for their rights — whereas too many of our legislators whimper in the corner when barked at by caucus leaders, the Des Moines Register, and others.

That’s why it’s vital Second Amendment supporters in our state make crystal clear to our State Representatives and Senators — if you don’t take action to restore our rights, gun owners will remember that betrayal when deciding who they want to back in future elections!

As we look forward to the next meeting of the Iowa General Assembly in 2017, now is no time to rest.

Let’s continue mobilizing our push for Constitutional Carry.

Right now, we have nearly tens of thousands of signed petitions in favor of Constitutional Carry to deliver to the Capitol. But we need far more if we’re going to take our rights back.

After you’ve done that, please forward this email to your friends, family, coworkers, and anyone else who you think supports this effort — encourage them to sign as well!

I can’t thank you enough for your activism in defense of our rights over the years.

But we’ve got to keep pushing! The fight simply never stops.

I look forward to the day we take our rights back here in Iowa, like our neighbors in Missouri just did, as I’m sure you do as well.

As always, stay active, stay mobilized, and stay involved.

For Freedom,

Aaron Dorr
Executive Director

P.S. Just last week, our neighbors to the immediate South in Missouri, passed Constitutional Carry and Stand-Your-Ground legislation into law in one shot!

Grassroots gun owners down there, being mobilized by the Missouri Firearms Coalition, had to fight hard to see this through as they had to override their Governor’s veto of this crucial legislation.

Many legislators fought hard too, to make this happen. All too often, we see Iowa legislators, in both parties, roll over and give up when told to do so by party leadership, liberal media, and others.
