Constitutional Carry Sub-Committee Monday – Take Action!

Constitutional Carry legislation — HSB 254 — is moving very quickly in Des Moines after House leaders unveiled their version of this legislation two days ago.

In fact, Constitutional Carry will receive a sub-committee hearing in the House Public Safety Committee THIS MONDAY!

To be clear, this bill contains Iowa Gun Owners’ Constitutional Carry legislation verbatim and we are fully supporting this language as things stand today.

But opposition to this critical legislation is mounting, and that’s why it’s vital that you submit your comments to the House Public Safety Sub-Committee BEFORE Monday’s hearing!

Submit a Statement of Support for HSB 254!

Unlike our standard advocacy programs, you will need to take a moment and fill out your name and contact information, and then cut and paste your comments directly onto the sub-committee’s website.

We’ll provide you with language that you can use to support this legislation under the P.S. of this email. But having testified in these sub-committees on Constitutional Carry multiple times in the past, I can tell you that IGO members are more than capable of producing their own statements in support, too.

It doesn’t matter whose language you use, just submit your statement in support of this legislation directly to the sub-committee THIS WEEKEND!

As a reminder, Constitutional Carry legislation would allow Iowans to carry a firearm for self-defense without having to pay fees to the state and without having to add your name to a government database like a sex offender!

The media, Bloomberg-backed groups, and anti-gun politicians in Des Moines are ALREADY trying to claim that passing this legislation would lead to an increase in violent crime.

But Iowans have heard this so many times, it’s boring.

When we passed ‘Shall Issue’ legislation in 2010, we were told that Iowa would see an explosion of gun crime as more Iowans would be allowed to carry guns. That never happened.

When we passed Stand-Your-Ground law in 2017, the gun control crowd and the FAKE NEWS said that we’d see duels on Main St. and vigilante justice. This was soon shown to be an absurdity.

Now the crazy gun control crowd in Des Moines is saying the same thing, that passing Constitutional Carry will lead to an explosion in shootings. It’s political theatre, nothing more.

But that doesn’t mean that moderates in the GOP caucus won’t be swayed by it. It’s happened multiple times in the past. So please push back against this narrative with your email today!

The members of Iowa Gun Owners have been fighting like hell to advance this legislation here in Iowa for years!

Gun owners flipped the Iowa House and Governor’s mansion over this issue in 2010, and you did the same thing to the Iowa Senate in 2016. More recently, we held the line against Bloomberg’s efforts to flip the legislature, during the 2020 elections.

And while the ‘pro-gun’ politicians in Des Moines shot this legislation down year after year, eighteen other states passed this legislation into law including multiple neighboring states!

But Capitol insiders have told us that with gun owners FLOODING the legislature with calls and emails in support of this legislation, legislative leaders are feeling the heat and don’t think it’s ‘political viable’ to continue blocking Constitutional Carry!

But now is no time to sit back and relax.

So please submit your statement of support for Constitutional Carry now, before the hearing that is taking place on Monday!

And when you’re finished, send this email to every single gun owner you know in Iowa and insist that they take five minutes and do the same thing!

Bloomberg will be pushing back with everything he has; take action now!

For Iowa,

Aaron Dorr
Chairman
Iowa Gun Owners

P.S. The House Public Safety Sub-Committee will be holding a hearing on Constitutional Carry legislation THIS MONDAY!

It’s urgent that you submit a statement of support for this legislation, so that the committee can hear directly from gun owners and not Michael Bloomberg’s hired guns.

(You can submit a statement of your own, or you can use the sample one provided below.)

Iowans have fought hard to get to this point, but we can’t relax until this legislation is finally signed into law. So please take action now and encourage other gun owners to do the same thing!

SAMPLE STATEMENT BELOW:

Dear Members of the Public Safety Sub-Committee,
The members of Iowa Gun Owners have waited for over a decade to see Constitutional Carry pass the Iowa House.
In 2010, we flipped the Iowa House because House Democrats blocked this bill in 2009 and 2010. And we’ve held the line against Michael Bloomberg and the radical left every two years since then, only to see this bill crushed year after year.
HSB 254 would make Iowa the nineteenth Constitutional Carry state and would allow law abiding Iowans the right to carry a firearm for self-defense without having to pay expensive fees or add their name to a government database first!
To be clear, in just the last two weeks, Utah and Montana have enacted this crucial legislation, the Indiana House passed it, and it’s about to receive committee action in Tennessee.
Gun-grabbers and the media tried to stop ‘Shall Issue’ legislation here in Iowa over a decade ago, saying that passing it would lead to higher crime rates. They were wrong.
Then they tried to block ‘Stand-Your-Ground’ law in 2017, again claiming that giving Iowans the legal right to defend themselves in public would somehow lead to Iowans getting involved in crazy shootouts and vigilante justice. They were wrong about that, too.
And so while I fully expect that the media, Bloomberg-funded organizations, and leftist politicians will try to claim that expanding Iowans gun rights by passing Constitutional Carry will lead to violence, Iowans know that this is just another lie.
Eighteen states have this legislation on the books — over one-third of America –- and these are among the safest states in America!
It’s high time that the Iowa legislature make Iowa the nineteenth state! Gun owners have worked tirelessly to make it possible for the legislature to enact this legislation. We’ve waited long enough.
Please advance HSB 254 immediately and with no weakening amendments.
