Urgent: Tell Gov. Reynolds to Sign HF-924 Into Law!

Late yesterday, in a vote of 33-14, the Iowa Senate passed HF-924 through their chamber without amendment, meaning that this bill will be on Governor Reynolds’ desk right away!

Thank you to the tens of thousands of IGO members who have been emailing their Senator, your voices were heard, loud and clear.

But we can’t stop here.

Governor Reynolds needs to hear from you next, to make sure that she signs this bill into law and doesn’t yield to the Leftists and the handful of RINOs who opposed this bill.

As a reminder, HF-924 lowers the age at when at Iowan can possess a handgun — and apply for a concealed carry permit — from 21 back down to 18 where it was until 2010.

In 2010, the Democrats ran the legislature and the Governor’s mansion, and they raised the age limit from 18 to 21. While IGO tried to stop that, we were overruled.

It was always a silly law.

18-20 year olds can marry, serve in the military, buy a home, pay taxes, and have children but they can’t carry a handgun for self-defense?

Thankfully the courts have realized this. The Supreme Court’s Bruen decision addressed this, in part, and follow-on decisions from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals did, as well.

So the legislature in Des Moines basically has two choices: change the law or wait until the state is sued and a judge strikes down the current law as unconstitutional.

Thankfully, this bill is moving and would fix this problem.

But there are a lot of lobby organizations trying to kill this bill, and they are reaching out to the Governor right now.

This includes:

  1. The League of Women Voters
  2. Iowans for Gun Safety
  3. Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church
  4. Interfaith Alliance of Iowa

Heck, even the Izaac Walton League is officially ‘undecided’ on this bill.

Gun owners need to get loud, and right now! Please send your pre-written email to Governor Reynolds now

We’ll have more updates soon!
