Last session in Des Moines, Iowa Gun Owners and our members came very close to plugging the holes in our Stand-Your-Ground law. House File 945...
After assigning himself as the Chairman of the Subcommittee, Senator Jason Schultz refused to hold a hearing on the bill…killing it for the time being!
Even though the bill gives us a pre-trial hearing after a shooting…even though it gives us criminal immunity to charges if we used lawful force…even though it protects us in civil court, too.
But there is a way to save this bill!
HF-945, strengthening our Stand-Your-Ground law with pre-trial immunity hearings, sailed through the Iowa House 89-6. HF-924, dropping the concealed carry permit age to 18, passed 79-18 with an amendment we supported.
Late yesterday, the House passed HF-924, as well! This legislation lowered the age when an Iowan can obtain a concealed carry permit from 21 to 18.
HF-945 strengthens our Stand-Your-Ground law by adding a pre-trial immunity hearing process to our existing Stand-Your-Ground law.
Iowans voted for big changes last November; tell your State Representative that HF-945 and HF-924 are part of those big changes!
Passing this legislation would give major protections to gun owners. And with the bill having already cleared sub-committee and the full committee, it’s now ready for a vote in the House.
House Study Bill 213 — sponsored by gun rights champion Steve Holt — would upgrade our Stand-Your-Ground law in several ways. What’s more, the bill has already passed sub-committee!
Dozens of states have already put these protections in place to protect gun owners from liberal prosecutors like…but Iowa has not. This means we’re all vulnerable if we must defend ourselves.
