KA-BOOOOM!
Yesterday was a major victory for gun owners in Des Moines.
The Iowa House of Representatives has officially passed IGO’s legislation to ban ‘Red Flag Gun Seizures’ in Iowa by a strong vote of 67-29!
This is a huge step toward making sure no Iowan can ever have his or her firearms taken by the government, based on accusations alone, and without due process.
You guys made this victory happen!
Thousands of Iowa Gun Owners members sent emails, made calls, and signed petitions in support of this critical legislation –- and they heard you loud and clear here in Des Moines.
And not only would this bill (it’s been renumbered as HF-2718) ban the practice of ‘Red Flags,’ it creates a civil penalty.
That means if a jurisdiction — let’s say Iowa City for example — enforces a Red Flag law against you, you could take them into civil court for damages!
I want to make sure you remember a few names from this success, because three lawmakers fought hard for this.
👉 Rep. Jeff Shipley, who introduced the legislation and made banning ‘Red Flag Gun Seizures’ a top priority.
👉 Rep. Steve Holt, who did a great job getting the bill through the Judiciary Committee with no harmful amendments.
👉 Rep. Skyler Wheeler, who floor managed the bill and helped secure the votes needed for passage.
Their leadership made this victory possible.

(Representatives Shipley, Holt, and Wheeler fought hard to ban ‘Red Flag Gun Seizures’ in Iowa. Be sure to thank them.)
But the fight is not over yet. The bill moves to the Iowa Senate, where it must pass before it can be sent to the Governor’s desk and signed into law.
We will have action alerts soon so you can contact your State Senator and demand passage of this legislation.
But today, we should take a moment to remember that when gun owners stand together and apply pressure, good things happen.
This is how we’ve passed every gun bill in our existence.
And it proves that Iowa Gun Owners continues to lead the fight for the Second Amendment in Des Moines.
If you believe in the work Iowa Gun Owners is doing to defend the Second Amendment, please consider helping us keep the momentum going.
After you read this update, please consider making an urgent donation of $10, $25, $50, or even $100 to help Iowa Gun Owners continue fighting for gun owners across the state.
