Emergency!

This is it.

After all the lies, the spin, the media’s false portrayals, as well as all of your calls, emails, and attending town hall meetings – the next 2-3 days will likely tell the tale on President Obama’s gun control agenda.

The stakes couldn’t be higher.

Recognizing their inability to pass their ultimate goal of firearms confiscation, the anti-gunners are working overtime to strike a back-room deal with “A” rated Republican Senators in an attempt to work out a compromise.

Our Republican Senator Charles Grassley is right in the middle of it.

Before we even examine the details of any proposed bill, understand that if ANY gun bill makes it onto the Floor of the Senate, it’s bad for gun owners!

Harry Reid (D-NV), Diane Feinstein (D-CA), and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) control the agenda and the timing of the Senate. So if any bill makes it to the Floor they can amend it into the truly nightmarish bill that they are seeking.

What’s more, the gun-grabbers are desperate to claim bi-partisan support for their agenda – so getting Republicans on board is a critical step for them. That’s where Senator Grassley comes in.

Senator Grassley says that he’s going to vote no to the more onerous portions of President Obama’s plan.

But that is not enough.

He needs to oppose ALL of President Obama’s plan.

Unfortunately, Senator Grassley is not doing that.

Just last week Senator Grassley announced that he was working on an “alternative gun control proposal” with some of his colleagues. Just as bad, he won’t release the details of this proposal so we have no idea how bad it may be!

But Senator Grassley already voted in favor of Obama’s “Trafficking Bill” S.54 in Committee two weeks ago – the Trojan Horse that the gun-grabbers are going to use to get their bill onto the Floor.

This bill would:

>>> Make you a felon, and lock you away in federal prison for 15 years if you UNKNOWINGLY give a firearm as a gift to a prohibited person – again, even if you don’t know the person is prohibited;

>>> Subject you to draconian forfeiture, racketeering, and money laundering penalties – virtually assuring that you’ll spend the rest of your life in poverty – even if you win your case;

>>>
Impose the same 15-year federal prison sentence if you UNKNOWINGLY sell more than one firearm to someone that you should have known was prohibited.

Imagine going to federal prison because you sold a firearm to someone – in good faith – only to find out later on that he was prohibited and simply didn’t tell you?

As for the rest of what is in his bill….Grassley isn’t saying.

And that worries me – a lot.

Instead, Senator Grassley should be joining with the more than 12 other GOP Senators who are pledging to filibuster any gun bills before they get to the Floor for consideration.

Please, take a moment to sign your petition urging Senator Grassley to publicly support the filibuster!

Lead by Senator Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and others – this filibuster is needed because these Senators know that if ANY gun bills get onto the Floor it would be a disaster as there is no telling how far it would be amended!

In fact, just this past Friday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid laid his strategy bare in a radio interview on Nevada Public Radio, saying:

*** “We’re going to do something on background checks [NATIONAL GUN REGISTRATION].”

*** “We’re going to take a look at the size of clips or magazines.”

***
“And when it’s all over, we’re going to have votes on [the Feinstein Gun Ban].”

The only way to ensure that gun control does not become a reality is to ensure that the bill never reaches the Floor.

The best way for that to happen is to have as many Senators as possible publicly support the filibuster. Senator Grassley told some of you that he would do so when he was in Iowa last week on recess.

But our sources in Washington are telling us that he still won’t add his name to the list – or publicly declare his support
!

So please, sign your petition to Senator Grassley urging him to get on board at once!

Many of you have received the canned reply letters or emails from Senator Grassley’s office wherein he pledges to vote no on an assault weapons ban – but at the same time he’s telling Politico that he’s “drafting his own gun control proposal.”

This is exactly the kind of flip-flopping that Iowans are sick and tired of.

It’s time for Senator Grassley to declare himself once and for all. Will he publicly support the filibuster – or won’t he?

One thing is clear, he’s not going to do so if you and I don’t make it clear that we want him to. That’s why it’s vital that you sign your petition calling on Senator Grassley to support the filibuster right away!

And if you possibly can, please consider a contribution to Iowa Gun Owners. We are doing all that we can to alert as many Iowans as possible about these threats to our gun rights but there is only so much that we can do.

If you can chip in just $10 or $20 it would be very helpful and put right to use.

But please, sign your petition either way.

P.S. The gun control debate will be moving into high gear this week.

Anti-gunners are salivating at their chance to move a seemingly “reasonable” bill onto the Floor where they can then amend it and add in anything they want.

It’s vital that NO bill never even comes to the Floor! That’s why almost 15 Senators have now agreed to filibuster this bill – they know that it would be very damaging if ANY bill comes up for debate!

Iowa’s Senator Charles Grassley is sending out mixed signals. His emails and canned letters to you indicate that he’s going to vote correctly. Yet he tells the online newspaper Politico that he’s “drafting his own gun control alternative proposal.”

It’s vital that Senator Grassley support the filibuster and keep gun control from coming to the Floor! So please sign your petition to Senator Grassley urging him to publicly support the filibuster.

And please consider chipping in $10 or $20 to help IGO alert as many Iowans as possible about this threat to our 2nd Amendment rights.
