The 2024 General Election is just nine months away.
While neither party has nominated their candidate, it’s likely that a year from now President Trump will be back in the White House, or Joe Biden will be re-elected to another term.
After the caucuses, the entire world knows that Trump will carry Iowa in an epic landslide. That’s not in question.
But Pennsylvania is in question. Michigan is in question. Wisconsin is in question. So are Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada.
The fact is, Joe Biden might win re-election.
If Biden does win, the Democrats will likely take back the House of Representatives too. The Republicans only have a 1-seat majority and 18 have announced they are not seeking reelection.
If that happens, we’ll be in the fight of our lives to stop Biden from passing a national AR-15 ban, a national ‘Red Flag’ law, a national gun registry — and that’s just the beginning!
For the first time in history, we need to consider the fact that ‘Red America’ may be living under the same sort of laws that have ruled New York, California, and Washington, D.C.
If Biden can pass any of these bills, he’ll demand that Iowa troopers, deputies, and city cops enforce it here in Iowa.
That’s why the Iowa legislature needs to stop stalling and take immediate action on the Second Amendment Preservation Act!
TELL JUDICIARY: MOVE SAPA LEGISLATION!
The good news is that thanks to IGO’s lobbying program in Des Moines and your grassroots pressure, dozens of State Reps
have already co-sponsored this bill (HF 147) in the House, including:
Representatives Boden, Bradley, Cisneros, Dieken, Gerhold, Hayes, Henderson, Jeneary, Meggers, Osmundson, Sherman, Stol, Tenberg, M. Thompson, Wheeler and more.
In fact, the Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA) has already passed the House Judiciary Committee sub-committee. But it’s being held up in the full committee. And we’re low on time.
That’s why it’s vital that you immediately sign the petition that we’ve prepared for you.
As you’ll see, this petition is to the members of the Judiciary Committee, insisting that they pass HF-147 immediately so that it can get to the House floor before it’s too late.
SAPA has been a good goal for the last two years.
But with the elections coming, it’s now a MUST DO!
SAPA is simple. It asserts the age-old ‘anti-commandeering doctrine’ and tells Joe Biden that Iowa is a sovereign state, governed by our own constitution, and that he may not force our cops to carry out his federal gun control laws.
Specifically, SAPA law would instruct Iowa cops to enforce Iowa laws when it comes to firearms, ammo, and accessories (like a pistol brace) ignoring federal gun laws all together.
But while SAPA is simple, the ramifications are MASSIVE!
TELL JUDICIARY: ADVANCE HF-147!
You see, by denying Joe Biden the use of our cops, his gun control agenda will fall flat here in Iowa! Biden can pass gun control through Congress all he wants — but Iowa troopers, deputies, and cops will not enforce it!
Sound too good to be true?
It’s not.
The United States Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the states’ right to refuse to aid in the enforcement of federal laws, regulations, or treaties that they disagree with.
Some of those cases include: Prigg v Pennsylvania, Printz v United States, NFIB v Sebelius, Murphy v NCAA and New York v United States.
In each case, the Court has said that the states are free to assist the federal government if they want to, but they can not be forced into doing so by an enraged President.
So while Biden can order federal agencies to enforce federal gun control laws here in Iowa, they can’t use our cops to do it. And that means they will go largely unenforced!
But SAPA does more than just protect gun owners.
SAPA also protects Iowa’s cops.
Having met hundreds of cops across the state while I lobby the legislature, work a booth at a gun show, or attend public events, I know that most Iowa cops are 100% pro-gun.
And right now, these cops are scared.
If they are ordered to enforce a gun control mandate from Joe Biden they currently have two options: break their oath of office and enforce the order, or refuse and get fired.
That’s why front-line cops love HF-147; they know that when we pass this, they will be protected from a liberal department head who wants them to enforce federal gun control laws.
So the Second Amendment Preservation Act is constitutional, is backed up by tremendous Supreme Court precedent, protects gun owners and cops, and has the support of dozens of lawmakers!
But for SAPA to protect anyone here in Iowa, the Judiciary Committee needs to stop holding the bill hostage.
