Late yesterday, Iowa Gun Owners’ priority legislation — HF-668 and HF-430 — PASSED the House Judiciary Committee. The vote on both was 14-6.
This is a major victory for gun owners.
And it happened because thousands of IGO members like you inundated the Judiciary Committee with emails demanding action.
Your pressure completely neutralized the dishonest attacks and bogus arguments pushed by anti-gun law enforcement lobbyists and gun control groups who were desperate to kill these bills.
They misrepresented what these bills would do.
They invented wild hypothetical scenarios.
They tried to intimidate lawmakers into voting against them.
They failed.
Because Iowa Gun Owners members made it clear that gun owners are watching — and that we expect results.
HF-668, sponsored by Rep. Sam Wengryn, enhances our Stand-Your-Ground law by granting us the presumption of innocence, creating a pre-trial immunity hearing, and requiring probable cause before any arrest can be made following a self-defense incident.
HF-430, sponsored by Rep. Jeff Shipley, bans ‘Red Flag Gun Seizures’ in Iowa once and for all, ensuring that our firearms cannot be confiscated based on accusations alone without due process. And it has a penalty provision to enforce compliance.
These bills move Iowa closer to having the strongest self-defense protections in the nation.
We also need to thank Judiciary Committee Chairman Steve Holt, who guided these bills through the sub-committee and full committee process — ensuring they received fair hearings despite intense opposition pressure.

But this fight is far from over.
These bills now advance to the next stage, and anti-gun lobbyists will continue working behind the scenes to stall them, weaken them, or kill them before they reach the House floor.
