Constitutional Carry Passes the Iowa House!

Moments ago, the Constitutional Carry legislation that Iowa Gun Owners has fought so hard for passed the Iowa House by a vote of 60-37 after a long debate on the floor!

This was made possible in large part because the members of Iowa Gun Owners have inundated the Iowa legislature with tens of thousands of calls and emails demanding action on this bill over the last few weeks, in particular.

And just like we saw in 2017, when the legislature piled over a dozen pro-gun issues onto our Stand-Your-Ground law, the members of Iowa Gun Owners are driving much more than just the fight for Constitutional Carry in Des Moines.

Just some of the add-ons to Constitutional Carry include:

>>> The elimination of the permit to purchase handguns! While a permit or NICS check is required to purchase from a dealer, Iowa would join most states in allowing for private party sales without needing government permission, as long as the intended buyer is legally allowed to own firearms.

>>> The strengthening of Iowa’s pre-emption laws. This bill clarifies that cities cannot restrict the carrying of firearms in city limits, provided that the carrying of that firearm is legal under existing state law.

>>> Making it illegal for landlords to evict an otherwise law-abiding tenant for merely possessing a firearm, if that landlord receives government assistance.

>>> Allowing for concealed carry in the People’s House (the Capitol building) without having to show a permit.

>>> Breaking the NRA’s monopoly as the only entity who can certify concealed carry instructors here in Iowa, by allowing the DPS to authorize other organizations to provide this training.

As you can see, this is a monumental advancement for Second Amendment freedom here in Iowa, and it’s all being made possible because of the members of Iowa Gun Owners, who have never tired of pushing for Constitutional Carry law for Iowa!

Of course, this fight is far from over. The Senate will need to vote on this legislation before it can be sent to the Governor’s desk.

That’s why I hope that you will send your State Senator this PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL right away, urging him to support Constitutional Carry law here in Iowa!

Tell the Iowa Senate to Pass Constitutional Carry!

As we told you in our email earlier this morning, Everytown for Gun Safety and Giffords PAC — along with in-state gun-grabbers like Iowans for Gun Safety, Polk County, the Catholic Conference, and the Methodist Church — are all trying to stop us.

And they are willing to do anything, say anything, to shut this bill down as it moves to the Senate. We can’t relax and we can’t take anything for granted now.

So email your State Senator, and then ask every pro-gun friend you have to do the same thing. We need to exert maximum pressure on the legislature until this bill is signed into law!

Thank you, once again, for all that you’ve done to drive this bill this far. IGO members are warriors in the fight for freedom and your donations and activism are what is keeping Iowa free!
