Iowa Alert: Contact House Judiciary Committee Today

Tue, Feb 17, 2026

Big news for gun owners from Des Moines.

Both of Iowa Gun Owners’ priority gun bills, HF-668 and HF-430, passed their Judiciary Sub-Committees late last week on party line votes of 2-1.

Now these bills advance to the full Judiciary Committee. But time is running short, and the committee must act quickly.

HF-668 is IGO’s enhanced Stand-Your-Ground legislation, filed by Rep. Sam Wengryn. This bill strengthens Iowa’s self-defense laws in several key ways:

1. Granting gun owners the presumption of innocence in the wake of a self-defense shooting, currently we’re presumed guilty.
2. Requiring probable cause before an arrest can be made.
3. Allowing us to assert our rights in a pretrial hearing.

This bill protects law abiding gun owners from being arrested and prosecuted simply for defending themselves.

HF-430 is IGO’s legislation with Rep. Jeff Shipley to ban Red Flag Gun Seizures in Iowa.

This bill does three things:

1. Prohibits the government from confiscating firearms without a conviction for a violent felony crime.
2. Imposes civil penalties of $50,000 on agencies that violate the law.
3. Stops secret court hearings that strip gun owners of their rights without due process.

This ensures that no Iowan can have their firearms seized without full constitutional protections.

Gun control lobbyists are opposing these bills aggressively, and members of the Judiciary Committee are feeling the pressure.

That’s why they must hear from you immediately.

Please click the buttons above and send your pre-written emails to the full Judiciary Committee. Urge them to pass HF-668 and to pass HF-430 and move these bills forward without delay.

These bills have cleared the sub-committee process, now the full committee must act.

Please send your pre-written emails immediately.

Aaron Dorr
Chairman
Iowa Gun Owners
