Late yesterday, the Senate subcommittee voted 2–1 to advance HF-2718 — IGO’s bill to ban ‘Red Flag Gun Seizures’ in Iowa.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that Senate Judiciary Chairman Jason Schultz appears determined to let this bill die in committee by running out the clock.

And the worst news?

The Iowa Firearms Coalition testified AGAINST this incredibly popular gun bill in sub-committee yesterday!

Let’s be clear about what is at stake.

HF-2718 already passed the Iowa House by a commanding 67–29 vote because of your email pressure and the leadership of Majority Leader Kaufmann, Chairman Steve Holt, and Rep. Skylar Wheeler.

Now the Senate must act — and they must act fast.

HF-2718 would ban ‘Red Flags’ in Iowa by ensuring that no law-abiding Iowan can have their firearms confiscated without real due process. Specifically, the bill requires:

• A conviction for a violent felony, or
• Being out on bail for a violent felony, or
• Disqualification under existing law

No secret hearings. No ex-parte confiscations. No midnight knock on the door because someone made an accusation.

And if a government agency violates the law, HF-2718 gives you the power to sue for civil damages. That puts real teeth behind the protections.

This is why the anti-gun lobby is fighting so hard.

And it’s why establishment forces in Des Moines are trying to quietly bury the bill before the legislative deadlines hit.
