Gun Owners Trounce the Des Moines City Council!

Have you ever heard the expression, “You can’t fight city hall?”

Well, whomever said that wasn’t a part of the Iowa Gun Owners army — who obliterated a pair of gun control ordinances in the Des Moines City Council last night!

Hearing the council members trip over themselves, trying to get away from the pressure of gun owners, was just priceless!

“I’m sorry.”

“I misspoke.”

“This wasn’t my intention.”

“We shouldn’t have wasted all of this time.”

“This was about one councilman who wanted to grandstand.”

On and on they went.

If you missed the video last night, you missed a great show, as over a dozen gun owners (most of them members of Iowa Gun Owners) blasted the council for their arrogance in trying to criminalize the possession of magazines that hold over 10 rounds!

On the contrary, only one Bloomberg radical showed up to support this radical agenda.

And make no mistake, this was a radical concept that would have allowed the anti-gun Des Moines City Police Department to harass countless gun owners who live in or travel through Des Moines for the ‘crime’ of having a 15 round magazine!

As I told the council on behalf of the members of IGO who couldn’t attend, we knew that this entire scheme was vengeance for their inability to stop the expansion of Second Amendment freedom over the last decade.

Whether it’s Mayor Cownie’s long standing goal of banning every AR-15 in the city, or the Police Chief’s anger at the passage of Stand-Your-Ground law in 2017 — Des Moines is not friendly to gun owners.

But faced with so many calls and emails from angry gun owners like you, the council chose to not pursue either of their proposed ordinances.
Instead, they assigned the issue to be studied further by the city manager, likely condemning this issue to the trash bin for the time being.

As we said all along, this issue was about far more than the City of Des Moines.

We had already heard from numerous sources around the state that if Des Moines was able to get away with this attack, dozens of cities would follow suit in a matter of weeks!

So by taking action and defeating this ordinance last night, you undoubtedly helped to defeat dozens of similar proposals from even being introduced in other Iowa communities.

Thank you to everyone who made calls, sent emails, or sent messages to the council members via Facebook.

A big thank you to all of the members who joined me at the council meeting last night, and gave such passionate testimony.

And a final thank you to all of our members who have given us the financial resources to be able to mobilize an army of gun owners — from across the state — at a moment’s notice!

P.S. The Des Moines City Council was convinced that they could hammer through a pair of gun control ordinances at their meeting last night — until they ran into the IGO buzz saw!

Thank you for taking action, and always being willing to fight for your right to keep and bear arms!
