Iowa: The City of Hubbard Moves on Your Gun Rights!

Folks, it’s happening again! Please take time and read this article in full, and take action as soon as possible!

If you’ve been with Iowa Gun Owners for some time now, you know that we fight hard to expose gun control in the back chambers of the committee rooms here in Des Moines.

However, gun control advocates don’t just hang out in the State House – but in City Councils all across our state
.

Thanks to you and our 223,000 – and growing – activists on Facebook, we have a fantastic network of gun owners ready to keep us, and you, informed of any gun ban proposal introduced in their communities.

Just last month, actions taken by our grassroots activists lead us to a stunning victory in Kalona!

Just 4 DAYS ago we defeated another attempted ban on self-defense – this time in North Liberty!

But as you know, these gun-grabbers never wane from wanting to steal your rights away – and with help from you – we’ll continue to fight for the 2nd Amendment all across Iowa.

By the way, if you’re not on our Facebook page, be sure to “LIKE” our page today.

Sometimes the fight to defend the 2nd Amendment moves fast, making us have to act fast. So our massive Facebook page is a great way to stay up to date with news from the frontlines.

Now, we need your help to stop an attack on your gun rights in tiny, little Hubbard, IA – where Mayor Marshall Simmerman is proposing to the Hubbard City Council to make all city-owned property a “weapons free zone.”

Now while there are already gun bans in place on certain properties like the Recreation Center in Hubbard, this proposal would expand to ALL city-owned property.

For example, places like Brubaker-Hoelscher Park or the Hubbard public pool, and even polling places. At these areas, law abiding gun owners are expected to be disarmed or face criminal prosecution!

Ironically, the city council themselves are already questioning the constitutionality of such a policy!

More, the council has even discussed the effectiveness of such a proposal – but have decided they would take the risk of litigation instead.

Did you get that?

The council in Hubbard knows that a ban is both unconstitutional and an ineffective to stop crime – but they are determined to do it anyway.

Incredible!

Of course, if Hubbard does continue with this over-reaching gun ban, it will be in clear violation of Iowa code 724.28 which states:

A political subdivision of the state shall not enact an ordinance regulating the ownership, possession, legal transfer, lawful transportation, regulation, or licensing of firearms when the ownership, possession, transfer, or transportation is otherwise lawful under the laws of this state.

It’s plain and simple: the City of Hubbard doesn’t have the legal authority to ban guns on “their” properties.

But as you and I know, the City of Hubbard doesn’t own any property, as it’s the taxpayers and gun owners in town that own and maintain these properties with their tax dollars!

But as we know, politicians and gun grabbers like Mayor Simmerman won’t let that slow them down.

You might be thinking, why does this matter to me? Why should I be worried?

For good reason, the Iowa League of Cities (ILC), an organized, anti-gun, and TAXPAYER FUNDED organization, is already in contact with Mayor Simmerman to help spear head this proposal right in the heart of Iowa!

If we don’t fight them here, then the Iowa League of Cities just might be lurking around the corner in your hometown next.

It doesn’t matter where you live, once gun control starts in one city it won’t stop – which means we can’t rest.

Gun owners in Hubbard are asking for assistance from their fellow gun owners in Iowa.

You’ve stepped up to the plate and stopped gun bans in Dubuque, Nevada, George, Tama, Kalona, North Liberty, North Burlington and more – now I hope you’ll go to bat for your brothers in Hubbard!

So please, reach out to the city council members listed below and tell them how you feel about this outrageous attack on the 2nd Amendment.

Remind them that they don’t own any property in Hubbard, and that it belongs to the citizens of Hubbard – many of whom are gun owners, whose taxes purchase and help maintain those facilities.

Don’t forget to mention that any attempt to ban guns on city property is forbidden by state law
!

Let them know that “Gun Free Zones” have claimed dozens of innocent lives this year, and this proposal would only put more lives at risk in Hubbard – as the only people to follow the law would be innocent, law-abiding citizens.

Please note that ALL gun owners in Iowa need to get involved and make these calls – whether or not you live in Hubbard or Hardin County!

Understand this – politics runs on momentum.

If one city government can ban a constitutional right to keep and bear arms, then other small towns across Iowa WILL follow suit.

This is why Iowa Gun Owners fights so hard to defeat these proposals, and it’s why we need your help!

So please make these calls, and then send this email to every one of your friends, family, co-workers, fellow gun owners, and anyone else you can think of!

Our Founding Fathers fought and died to give us the freedoms that we enjoy today. It is now up to us to keep and defend those freedoms when and where they are attacked.

This is why I’m urging you to get involved and make your calls right away!

If you can, please consider chipping in $10 or $20. Iowa Gun Owners is very busy mobilizing gun owners in Hardin Co. making sure they can take action to defend their rights.

Your donation will help enable us to continue carrying out this plan of action today, and help prepare for the next one tomorrow!

But whatever you do, please make your calls today, that’s most important!

P.S. Like a bad game of Whack-a-Mole, another Iowa town is trying to ban law abiding citizens from carrying concealed on city properties – in clear violation of Iowa code 724.28, and gun owners are asking for YOUR HELP.

This time it is in Hubbard, IA, where city Mayor Marshall Simmerman is subtly trying to restrict your ability to defend yourself and your family while spending time in the city, either at the park, or at the public pool, or even the town hall.

It’s clear and simple – all this is a violation and against state law.

All this gun ban proposal will do is make the citizens of Hubbard sitting ducks in the event of a violent crime – not to mention being a slap in the face to gun owners.

Your tax dollars go to purchase and maintain the very properties they’re trying to place gun bans at!

That is why I am asking you to call each city council member right away! Remember if this happens in one Iowa community with no outcry from gun owners, it’ll be happening in towns all over the state!
