In case you haven’t heard, Constitutional Carry is sweeping the nation.
In just the last three years, seven states have adopted this legislation, including our neighbors in Missouri and nearby Kansas.
Here in Iowa, the battle for Constitutional Carry will take center stage when the gavel falls on the 2018 legislative session!
And we need your help.
As I’m sure you noticed during the 2017 session, despite having pro-gun majorities in the House and Senate, passing Stand-Your-Ground law was a fight to the finish.
The radically anti-gun editorial boards of virtually all Iowa newspapers opposed us at every turn.
Anti-gun politicians in the Capitol, in the minority to be sure, threw up one roadblock after another.
And our ‘allies’ in the House cut a deal with anti-gun forces that almost cost us our Stand-Your-Ground bill — until your pressure forced leadership to reinsert the language they had removed.
So sitting back and hoping for the successful passage of Constitutional Carry law next session simply won’t cut it.
We need every gun owner in Iowa to make his voice heard, and to help us crank up the pressure as we approach the start of the 2018 session!
As a reminder, Constitutional Carry is the very simple idea that if you’re legally allowed to own a firearm, you can carry that firearm without needing to obtain government permission.
Of course, if you want to obtain a permit for any reason you could still do so, as Constitutional Carry doesn’t eliminate the permit but simply makes it optional.
But if you don’t want to add your name into a government database just to be able to carry, you wouldn’t have to.
If you don’t want to have to pay fees to carry, you wouldn’t have to.
And if you don’t want to have to beg permission from the government just to exercise your Second Amendment freedoms, you wouldn’t have to.
It’s the Second Amendment, the way our founding fathers intended it.
Don’t fall for the hype that will be pounding the airwaves or coming from anti-gun legislators about Constitutional Carry, either.
These are the same people that told us that passing ‘Shall Issue’ legislation would lead to blood in the streets — and they were wrong.
Then they told us that passing Stand-Your-Ground law would lead to vigilante justice and shootouts on Main Street — and again they were wrong.
So when they tell you that making carry permits optional will lead to increased violence, know that they are wrong again!
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of law abiding gun owners being treated with such contempt from the media and anti-gun legislators, as though we’re all criminals just looking for a fight.
Expect some legislators to try to get away with, “We already dealt with guns in 2017, we’re moving on.”
Expect House leadership to try to duck the issue altogether, citing the recent shootings in Las Vegas and Texas.
And expect your legislators to tell you that, “We can deal with this next year, after we are past the 2018 elections.”
These are all just excuses, designed to shut you up and let them cruise to a smooth re-election victory without having to deal with this legislation.
Here’s a fact: you and I are not guaranteed to have these legislative majorities for very long. It’s imperative that we use this time wisely and press for as much Second Amendment freedom as possible.
Iowa was one of the last states in the nation to pass ‘Shall Issue’ legislation.
Stand-Your-Ground law passed in well over half of the country before becoming law in Iowa earlier this year.
And thirteen other states have already enacted Constitutional Carry.
Gun owners can’t get complacent now, not when we’ve worked so hard to remove so many gun-grabbers from office. We have the momentum, now we need to keep our foot on the gas!
And, if you can, please consider a donation to help Iowa Gun Owners get ready for what will be a rough and tumble session.
From mass emails like this one to statewide radio and TV ads, mobilizing gun owners requires resources.
After our long fight to pass Stand-Your-Ground law, where we spent heavily to get as many gun owners as possible into our fight, we need to re-capitalize for the 2018 session.
Either way, please sign your petition, as that’s most important!
P.S. With Stand-Your-Ground law safely in the books, the fight for the Second Amendment here in Iowa turns to Constitutional Carry.
Constitutional Carry is law in thirteen other states right now, but will be a major political fight in Des Moines come January.
