As you know, Iowa Gun Owners has been working to get both Fred Hubbell and Kim Reynolds to sign our short, 8 question, gun rights candidate survey for several weeks.
So far, neither candidate will go on the record and pledge to fight for gun owners and to oppose all forms of gun control.
As a reminder, you can view the survey for yourself here.
As gun owners, we should be very alarmed that neither candidate is willing to publicly support our right to keep and bear arms — especially in a day where party affiliation means so little.
As a reminder, it was a Republican Governor that vetoed Constitutional Carry in Oklahoma this year.
And it was a Republican Governor who vetoed Constitutional Carry in South Dakota last year.
And it is Republican lawmakers nationwide who are calling for ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation as well as bills to raise the age on when someone can own a firearm.
Bottom line: these days its often gun owners against the political class as a whole, not gun owners against any one political party.
This means that we need to band together and force lawmakers to support our gun rights, as a condition of gaining our support!
This email will go right to their campaign accounts, with one click of your mouse — it’s never been easier to fight for your gun rights.
We are not asking for much. We simply want them to pledge that they will stand up for gun owners. It’s that simple.
In fact, this is not a new concept here in Iowa, either.
When he came out of political retirement to run against then Governor Chet Culver, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad was happy to sign his Iowa Gun Owners candidate survey!
And you should know, that the survey Branstad signed in 2010 included a question about whether or not he would support a Constitutional Carry law, although it wasn’t called that back then.
Check out some of the pictures that we took of this survey, which we dug out of our files yesterday.
It’s also important to note when Governor Branstad signed this survey.
Would-be politicos may be tempted to downplay a survey signed by Branstad, surmising that Branstad was looking for an edge in the midst of what was a 3-way GOP primary back in 2010 — but they would be wrong.
As you can clearly see in the images above, this survey was signed on July 29, 2010 and the USPS cancellation mark was dated July 30, 2010.
In other words, Governor Branstad signed this survey well after he had secured the GOP nomination!
So the question that gun owners all over Iowa are now wondering is whether or not Kim Reynolds, as the GOP nominee in the gubernatorial race, will publicly pledge to fight for gun owners like Terry Branstad did, or not?
Do not forget, these candidates need you more than you need them right now.
Iowa’s gubernatorial race is tighter than we have seen in a very, very long time.
When he bested then Governor Culver, Terry Branstad did so by a whopping 9.7%. But that was not a surprise.
The Rasmussen Report poll that came out on September 23, 2010 showed Branstad up 18%. The Des Moines Register poll that came out October 29, 2010 showed Branstad up 12%. And a PPP poll showed Terry Branstad ahead by 15% earlier in the year.
This year, not so much.
The University of Virginia’s Center for Politics has official downgraded Iowa’s gubernatorial race to ‘tossup’ status -– meaning it’s anyone race right now.
The Cook Political Report, a decades-old non-partisan research institute, has also downgraded this race to ‘tossup’ status from ‘likely Republican.’
So both Kim Reynolds and Fred Hubbell have a decision to make.
Do they want to spite gun owners and hope for the best, or will they answer this simple survey where they pledge support for the Second Amendment (just like former Governor Branstad did) and lock up the support of Iowa’s Second Amendment supporters?
Ask them that yourself, by sending in your PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL!
Iowa’s next Governor will have tremendous power over the direction of our gun rights. With so many in the media and the legislature demanding gun control, we can’t leave anything to chance.
We need to know where Reynolds and Hubbell stand.
That starts with them signing their candidate questionnaire.
Please contact them both, at once!

P.S. With the Iowa gubernatorial race closer than it’s been in a very long time, gun owners are getting impatient with Kim Reynolds and Fred Hubbell’s refusal to answer the Iowa Gun Owners candidate survey!
Especially as we see a growing trend of ‘pro-gun’ governor’s betraying gun owners in more and more states!
